GREEN TEA

HERE'S A LITTLE BIT ABOUT GREEN TEA...

Green tea is the most consumed and oldest tea in the world. The earliest records of tea drinking date back to the first millennium BC in China. Tea was initially consumed for its health benefits and eventually socially and for pleasure.

Although all teas come from the same plant, Camellia Sinensis, green tea is different from other teas because of the way the leaves are harvested and processed. Green tea is very minimally oxidized, meaning they retain their original green color and usually a grassy/herbal taste. The young tea buds and leaves are carefully plucked, withered in the sun, and baked.

HOW IT'S MADE

THE DRAGONWELL MYTH

One of the most highly prized green teas of the world is a Chinese green called Dragonwell. The myth behind the name of this tea is that thousands of years ago there was a terrible drought in China. A buddhist monk knew there was a dragon living in the well of his village so he asked and prayed that the dragon would bring water to his province. The dragon answered his prayers, and as clouds opened up and filled fields with water, tea plants were revived. Thus, the tea that grew was called Dragonwell Green Tea.

THE HEALTH BENEFITS*

Green tea is highly praised for its health benefits! In fact, green tea was originally consumed medicinally and not as a social or recreational activity. Some of the known benefits are:

1. Cancer prevention: because green tea is minimally processed, it has high levels of catechins, an antioxidant.

2. Heart disease prevention: the catechins in green tea also help inhibit the formation of blood clots and lower LDL cholesterol.

You'll notice that these health benefits are preventive. The most powerful way to take control of your health is to avoid illness, not just manage it when you're sick.
